On Sunday morning we said goodbye to Marilyn and Marshall and to Lambs Run Farm, and Marshall drove us to the bus stop at Wolfville. We went by the scenic route and learned a lot of local history on the way.

The bus journey (about 2 hours) wasn’t too bad. Once in Halifax we set off walking to Fountain View Guest House with our heavy bags. We managed it in about half an hour, though we were very tired and hot by the time we got there. We left our bags (after the proprietor demanded to know whether we were harbouring any sleeping bags which might have fleas) and went out to Tim Horton’s for lunch, before heading downtown. We spent a while looking for a payphone that actually worked, buty eventually called home. We also looked for a church with an evening service but had to give up, as the churches we saw only seemed to have morning (and one or two afternoon) services. We did find “The Press Gang” to eat in. From the outside it looked just like a pub – even had a pub sign. But it turned out to be a very nice restaurant.

Yesterday we went out latish and had brunch at Cora’s, which does very good breakfasts. At the restaurant last night the couple at the next table asked the waitress for a breakfast recommendation, so we shamelessly but subtly eavesdropped and remembered the directions. It was indeed good (and we went back there this morning). Fortified, we were going to go to the citadel but it started raining so we went to the Maritime Museum instead, where we spent the rest of the afternoon. The citadel closed early and we decided not to bother rushing to get in. We also decided the brewery tour was too expensive. We had dinner in Wooden Monkey, a restaurant serving organic, local, free range food which was very good.

We're now in an cafe using their free wireless connection, and we're getting a bus to Baddeck in Cape Breton for our next farm in about an hour.
