Leaving Saturna

Tuesday 12 December

Saturna in the distanceWe had to get up early to finish packing so we could get the morning ferry. It was sad to watch Saturna receding into the distance, as we had had a lovely time there. While we were waiting at Swartz Bay, a woman who had been on the ferry from Saturna and had seen us with Jacques came up to Sophie and very kindly offered us a lift to our hotel from Tsawwassen, which we accepted.

When we boarded the Tsawwassen ferry we saw the woman and her daughter rummaging for their tickets, and we didn’t see them for the whole of the journey, so we were a bit concerned in case they hadn’t got on. They reappeared when the ferry arrived in Tsawwassen, to our relief. They live in Vancouver but have a house on Saturna, and had left their car in the car park at Tsawwassen.

They dropped us right by the hotel, which was great. The Quality Hotel was very good, despite being the cheapest airport hotel we could find. Our room even had high-speed internet.

We had dinner in a Japanese restaurant bar called Rz. We spent a long time looking at the menu before giving up and going for the sushi combo options as usual. The food was good – not quite traditional Japanese but a Westernised version.
